European mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion Oktagon is set to host a major stadium event this weekend, with a fight card expected to draw nearly 60,000 fans. This comes after Oktagon set a record in October 2024 by drawing 59,148 fans at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt—marking the largest attendance ever for an MMA event outside of Japan and surpassing the UFC’s previous record. The promotion is returning to the same venue two years later to celebrate its 10th anniversary with Oktagon 94, a high-profile event featuring a highly anticipated matchup between hometown hero Christian Eckerlin and former champion David Kozma. Oktagon has announced plans to make these large-scale events a yearly occurrence, introducing a new series called Oktagon Infinity. The first of these shows will take place in Düsseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena, which has a capacity of 50,000, in May 2027. Co-founder Pavel Neruda told The Independent that MMA is gaining popularity in Germany and that the promotion has a partnership with RTL, Germany’s public broadcaster, to support their efforts. Neruda also mentioned the possibility of hosting a future event at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, though that is not scheduled for next year. Oktagon 94 will feature a variety of high-profile matchups. One of the most anticipated bouts is between "The Neanderthal" Frederic Vosgrone, known for his aggressive fighting style and viral popularity, and Karlos Vemola, a former UFC fighter and two-weight Oktagon champion who has come out of retirement at age 42. Another notable fight is between British fighter Marc Diakiese, a veteran of the UFC until 2024, and 22-year-old prospect Fedor Duric, who have exchanged heated words in recent press conferences and face-offs. In addition to the main event, Oktagon will also host a half-time show featuring renowned DJ Robin Schulz, known for his multiple platinum and diamond-certified hits. Neruda emphasized that while breaking the attendance record by a few hundred people is not the main goal, creating a memorable experience for fans and featuring high-profile entertainment like Schulz is a top priority for the promotion.
