Vehicle theft in Nîmes

A vehicle was stolen in Nîmes near the Placette on Tuesday evening at around 8:45 p.m. The incident involved the driver being thrown out of the car during the theft.

Accident linked to stolen car

Approximately 45 minutes later, at around 9:30 p.m., a vehicle was involved in an accident near the Védelin neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. The driver lost control and abandoned the car, which police later identified as the same stolen vehicle.

Threats and flight into garrigue

The driver and a passenger, described as "accomplices," threatened a local man before fleeing into the nearby garrigue, a type of dry, open landscape typical of the region. The police traced the damaged vehicle back to the stolen car from the city center.

Confrontation with police

Calls for help were heard from the vegetation, leading municipal police to locate the two individuals in the forest. Instead of cooperating, the men insulted and threatened the officers, with one suspect spitting toward an officer.

Arrest and ongoing investigation

The pair was taken into custody and placed in the cells of the Nîmes police station. They remain in custody as the investigation into the incident continues.
