Job seeker numbers rise in Corsica

The number of people looking for work in Corsica has increased slightly in the third quarter of 2026, according to recent labor market data from the Dreets. An average of 22,020 individuals are registered with France Travail in categories A, B, and C, which include people actively seeking employment or engaged in reduced activity.

Unemployment and reduced activity details

Of the 22,020 registered job seekers, 14,440 are unemployed, while 7,570 are engaged in reduced activity. The increase in job seekers over the past three months is more pronounced among those not currently working or participating in any activity.

Regional differences in job seeker numbers

In Haute-Corse, 11,760 people are registered in categories A, B, and C, with 7,450 unemployed. In Corse-du-Sud, 10,250 job seekers are registered, of whom 6,990 are unemployed and 3,260 are in reduced activity. The rise in job seekers is less significant in Corse-du-Sud compared to Haute-Corse.

Long-term unemployment trends

Long-term unemployment has also increased in Corsica, with 7,280 people registered for a year or more in categories A, B, and C, compared to 6,310 a year ago. This represents a 15.4% increase over twelve months and now accounts for 33.1% of all registered individuals.

Regional long-term unemployment

In Corse-du-Sud, 3,140 people have been registered for at least a year, an increase of 20.8% compared to the same period in 2025. Their share of total job seekers has risen from 25.4% to 30.6% in one year. In Haute-Corse, 4,140 people have been registered for a year or more, an increase of 11.6%, representing 35.2% of the registered individuals.

Reform impact on job seeker data

The Dreets notes that the recent France Travail reform has affected the interpretation of these figures. Starting in January 2025, new groups such as RSA beneficiaries, young people seeking employment, and people with disabilities are systematically registered with France Travail, leading to the creation of two new statistical categories.

Adjusting for reform effects

To better understand the actual trends, the Dreets also provides data excluding these new groups. On this adjusted basis, the number of registered individuals in category A increased by 1.5% in the third quarter of 2026 in Corsica, but decreased by 3.3% over the past year. For categories A, B, and C combined, the increase was 0.4% over the quarter, but a decline of 2.6% over a year.
