Two women, identified in court documents as Jane Doe and Amy, have filed a federal lawsuit against the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, alleging that their photographs were part of a collection of child pornography he possessed. The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, seeks class-action status and unspecified damages. It asks the court to "design and supervise a single, coordinated program for identifying and notifying" other women whose "unlawful sexualized images" may be in Epstein’s collection. The lawsuit claims that Epstein, along with unnamed co-conspirators, was involved in a decades-long scheme involving the possession, transportation, production, and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from the early 1990s until his death in 2019. The lawsuit alleges that Epstein kept a "modeling book" containing "sexualized images of children" in a locked safe. It states that no charges related to child pornography were ever filed against Epstein, and that he and his co-conspirators claimed the images were for developing child models for Victoria’s Secret. The lawsuit names Darren Indyke, Epstein’s longtime lawyer, and Richard Kahn, his accountant, as defendants in their roles as co-executors of Epstein’s estate. Their lawyer, Daniel Weiner, declined to comment on the case. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, where he was jailed while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The lawsuit references allegations that Epstein and his co-conspirators created a "modeling book," a claim previously made in a lawsuit filed by Epstein survivor Maria Farmer against the government. Farmer’s case alleged that the government failed to protect her and others from Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Jane Doe says in the lawsuit that she was around 12 years old when "Epstein stole partially nude photographs of her" that were "taken as part of an artist study." The lawsuit states that Epstein’s possession of these images, along with how he obtained, cataloged, and retained them, constituted a "lascivious exhibition" that he took with him across state lines. It claims that despite reports made to law enforcement at the time about Epstein possessing photos of Jane Doe and other minors, no one in law enforcement took action to investigate or prosecute the case. The lawsuit also states that pornographic photographs of Amy, known as the "Misty" series, have been circulating since the 1990s and "consistently appear in collections maintained by individuals who possess child pornography." These images were "seized from Epstein’s properties," but Amy was never notified. The lawsuit claims that the only child pornography victims contacted by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) were limited to a small number addressed in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial. Hillary Nappi of AWK Survivor Advocate Attorneys, one of the accusers’ lawyers, said the lawsuit aims to hold Epstein’s estate accountable for a crime that has never been fully addressed. She stated that the estate should preserve and account for everything seized from Epstein’s properties and that a real, court-supervised process should be used to identify and notify every survivor depicted in the collection. Nappi noted that many survivors may not be aware their images exist in Epstein’s files and that they deserve to know and seek justice. NCMEC had no comment when asked whether it had identified and contacted any of the other women whose images were in Epstein’s possession. The private, nonprofit organization’s mission is to help find missing children and combat child sexual exploitation. Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 of recruiting and grooming teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein and is serving a 20-year prison term for conspiring to sex traffic minors. According to a whistleblower report to Congress last year, she sought to get her sentence commuted by former President Donald Trump. Trump, a once-close friend of Epstein’s who claims he did not know Epstein was preying on young girls, has not granted Maxwell’s request.
