TAAG Angola Airlines will launch a new route to Cape Verde in 2026, marking its regional expansion and aiming to triple passenger traffic by 2030.
New route to Cape Verde planned
TAAG Angola Airlines is set to launch a new flight route connecting the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo province with Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, beginning on December 12, 2026. The route will operate twice a week, with flights departing from Angola between Monday and Saturday and from Cape Verde between Tuesday and Sunday.Part of regional expansion
This new connection is the first step in TAAG’s broader regional expansion strategy, which includes plans to add a route to Dakar, Senegal, in 2027. The airline aims to increase its presence in West Africa and diversify Angola’s air links with other parts of the continent.Growth targets set
TAAG has set a goal to triple its annual passenger traffic, aiming to carry three million passengers by 2030, up from nearly one million in 2022. To support this growth, the airline plans to expand its fleet from its current twenty aircraft to fifty planes in the coming years.Challenges ahead
The success of these plans will depend on TAAG’s ability to maintain a competitive and regular flight schedule while managing operating costs and ensuring the availability of its aircraft. Profitability will also rely on passenger demand and the airline’s ability to attract customers in a competitive regional market.Need for capacity increase
To sustain the expected growth, TAAG will need to increase both its operational and commercial capabilities. This includes enhancing its infrastructure, customer service, and marketing efforts to support the new routes and expanded network.
