Pedro Acosta wins sprint race

Pedro Acosta claimed his second sprint race victory of the season at the Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini. The KTM rider capitalized on Jorge Martin's absence, who withdrew after completing eight laps in the second free practice session.

Acosta's second win of the season

This victory follows Acosta's first Grand Prix win in Thailand earlier in the season. He started from pole position, but Alex Marquez initially held the lead before encountering difficulties with Ai Ogura, who resisted contact and remained in second place.

Race dynamics shift with the white flag

The white flag allowed riders to change bikes in case of rain, altering the race's dynamics. Alex Marquez made a mistake while leading, handing the position to Ai Ogura. Meanwhile, Jack Miller, Joan Mir, Iker Lecuona, and Franco Morbidelli opted to switch to rain tires, but this strategy did not pay off.

Riders adjust to changing conditions

Marco Bezzecchi pushed hard to rejoin the leading trio, aiming to overtake Marc Marquez and secure better championship points. However, the Ducati rider was determined to achieve more than the third place initially expected of him. Rain began to appear more prominently on the track three laps from the finish but did not dampen the asphalt.

Final race results

Pedro Acosta finished first with a time of 20'04''098, followed by Marc Marquez at 0''578 and Marco Bezzecchi at 1''310. Johann Zarco finished tenth, just ahead of Fabio Quartararo, who made a strong recovery from 18th on the grid. The French riders failed to score points.

Championship standings update

Marc Marquez increased his lead to 19 points over Jorge Martin, who is now a spectator due to a right wrist fracture. Marco Bezzecchi is at 52 points, with Marc Marquez leading the championship with 374 points, followed by Jorge Martin with 355, Marco Bezzecchi with 322, Pedro Acosta with 275, and Ai Ogura with 265. Fabio Quartararo is at 74 points, and Johann Zarco is at 51. Rain could again affect the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.
