Owners of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have reported hearing unusual sounds coming from their devices' speakers, including crackling, a dull clapping noise, or an intermittent "tick." These reports have grown in recent weeks, with users discussing the issue on online forums such as MacRumors and Reddit. The sound does not appear the same for all users—some hear it frequently, while others only notice it under specific conditions, such as when scrolling through web pages, receiving notifications, when the on-screen keyboard appears, or during a cellular call. On some devices, the noise can be reproduced by toggling Airplane Mode on and off or by quickly adjusting the screen brightness. The sound seems to come primarily from the listening speaker, the one used for calls. Some users have said they returned their iPhone 18 Pro units before receiving a replacement, only to find the same issue present on the new device. These accounts suggest that the problem is not limited to a few faulty units, though the full extent of the issue remains unclear. The iOS 27.0.1 update, which Apple released to fix a separate bug affecting the iPhone 18 Pro, does not address the sound issue. The update notes do not mention any fixes related to the noises, and early user feedback indicates that the crackling is still occurring after the update is installed. This new problem adds to other concerns that have emerged since the iPhone 18 Pro's launch. In the first days of release, users also reported screen-related issues, such as flickering or color inconsistencies. The cause of the current speaker issue is still unknown. If it is a software bug, Apple may be able to fix it with a future update. However, if the problem is related to hardware, it could be more difficult for users to resolve. So far, Apple has not publicly commented on these reports.
