Guglielmo Vicario, the Italian goalkeeper, recently spoke about his time with Tottenham Hotspur and his relationship with manager Roberto De Zerbi after leaving the club on loan to Juventus. Vicario joined Juventus on August 18 after falling out of favor at Tottenham, where he had been since 2023. His departure came after a difficult season, during which he made 117 appearances but saw his playing time decline. Despite this, he praised De Zerbi for his professionalism and integrity, calling him a "man of his word" during an interview with Sky Sports Italia. Vicario did not play a single match under De Zerbi, as a hernia injury kept him out of action during the early stages of the manager’s tenure at Tottenham. This allowed Antonin Kinsky, a Czech goalkeeper, to take over the starting role. Kinsky later signed a new contract with Tottenham after the team secured safety in the Premier League. Vicario’s move to Juventus was finalized after the summer transfer window, with the loan agreement including an option to buy him permanently for 10 million euros (£8.5m). Reflecting on his time at Tottenham, Vicario acknowledged that some dynamics within the club did not align with his expectations, though he did not elaborate further. He also mentioned his contribution to the club’s Europa League victory in 2024 under former manager Ange Postecoglou. Despite his efforts, his performance dipped in the 2025-26 season, leading to his departure. Tottenham has experienced significant changes this summer, with 19 senior players leaving the club. However, Richarlison remained after the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia closed. De Zerbi did not include Richarlison in Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad, leaving the Brazilian forward sidelined for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Spurs continue to struggle in the league, having not yet recorded a win in 2026, following a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest and losses to Brentford and Newcastle.
