Dell, a major name in the computer industry based in Texas, has been very active in 2026, and this year it is using the IFA 2026 event in Berlin to introduce a new laptop: the Dell 14S. This 14-inch model is positioned as an affordable option, and it appears to be a direct response to Apple's MacBook Neo, a popular and stylish laptop. Just three months earlier, Dell had launched the XPS 13, a high-end laptop that was too costly for the French market to compete effectively with the MacBook Neo. Now, with the Dell 14S, the company is aiming to fill that gap by offering a more budget-friendly alternative. The Dell 14S is described as a well-balanced and accessible model. Unlike Dell’s usual minimalist design, which often features shades of gray and anthracite, the 14S comes in four vibrant colors: steel blue, gold, pink, and green. This shift in design reflects a broader trend in the market, where consumers are increasingly drawn to affordable, colorful laptops from brands like Apple and Lenovo. The 14S also features a thin and light aluminum chassis, measuring 13.5 mm in thickness and weighing 1.2 kg, a design typically found in mid-range laptops. Dell admits that this level of build quality is new for its entry-level offerings. The laptop is equipped with a new compact battery technology (750 ED PNCM), which is said to be powerful and less prone to overheating. This allows the device to last up to 23 hours on a single charge for video playback. However, the basic version of the Dell 14S does not include this optional battery, and Dell has not yet specified the expected battery life for that version. The laptop includes the latest Intel Core 5 and Core 7 processors from the 300 "non Ultra" series, a 14-inch IPS Full HD+ screen with a 60 Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio, two USB-C ports, an HDMI output, a headphone jack, and a Wi-Fi 6E modem. A higher-end 2.8K / 120 Hz screen is also available as an optional upgrade. Dell expects the Dell 14S to be released this autumn, and it plans to price it similarly to the XPS 13 in the United States. Given Dell’s usual pricing strategy for laptops outside its high-end XPS line, it is likely that the Dell 14S will be competitively priced in France compared to other entry-level laptops such as the MacBook Neo, the ASUS Zenbook 14, and the Acer Swift Air 14. This new model represents a significant step for Dell in the affordable laptop segment, aiming to capture a broader audience with a more colorful and modern design.
