Mullvad, a well-known provider of virtual private network (VPN) services, has released a new version of its Android app, labeled 2026.10, introducing several updates aimed at improving speed, security, and user experience. The update includes an interactive globe that displays the locations of all available servers, as well as an enhanced multi-hop feature that routes internet traffic through two servers for added privacy. The update is currently available on GitHub, but it has not yet been listed on Google Play, and Mullvad’s official website still shows version 2026.08 as the latest release.
The new features were quietly rolled out over the past two days, following months of development and testing. Earlier in August, Mullvad had released beta versions of some of these features, allowing users to test them for nearly a month before the full release. The interactive globe makes it easier for users to explore server locations and track their own connection routes by allowing zooming, panning, and scrolling across different regions.
The multi-hop feature, which has been a key part of Mullvad’s offering since 2025 on desktop and iOS, can now be activated automatically based on user preferences and security settings. For example, if a security feature called DAITA is enabled and the selected servers do not support it directly, the system will automatically switch to multi-hop mode to maintain a high level of privacy. If DAITA is turned off, the system will revert to a single-server connection to preserve speed and bandwidth.
In addition to these features, Mullvad has improved the server search function, sorting results by relevance and including approximate matches to enhance the user experience. A few bugs were also fixed, including issues with the display of location lists and incorrect revocation flags during API rejections. However, the new version 2026.10 also includes a known issue that could cause the first connection attempt to fail when using features like quantum-resistant tunnels or DAITA. Mullvad has advised users to avoid version 2026.09, which had a bug causing connection instability, and expects a future update to resolve the current issue.
