Two teenagers sustained injuries to their back and ear on Monday, October 5, during a student mobilization in Le Blanc-Mesnil, a town in the Seine-Saint-Denis department outside Paris. According to BFMTV, the injuries occurred when a group of young people launched fireworks that were shaped like mortars—small explosive devices—toward police officers who were present at the scene. An investigation has been launched, and two minors have been placed in custody, though it is not yet clear whether they were directly responsible for the injuries. The student movement, which began in mid-September in Créteil and later spread to other areas, has led to a significant number of injuries. Government data indicates that 215 students have been injured so far, with most of these injuries resulting from accidents or incidents involving individuals outside the student movement. Additionally, approximately 700 law enforcement officers and nearly 100 staff members from the national education system have also sustained injuries during the protests. Since September 28, the Ministry of the Interior reported that 6,059 arrests have been made, with more than 5,000 of those arrested being minors. The majority of these individuals have been placed in custody. The IGPN, which is often referred to as the "police of the police," has also launched ten investigations into the events related to the student mobilizations.
