Four activists released from detention

Four pro-democracy activists who had been held in secret for nearly six months by Mali’s state security forces reappeared on Tuesday, October 20. They were handed over to a judicial unit specializing in cybercrime and are now being held at the Bamako detention center.

No information on missing activist

Mountaga Tall, a lawyer and former minister who was the first to be abducted by state security in May, has not been seen or heard from since his disappearance. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Detention outside legal framework

The activists were detained in locations that were not officially recognized by the legal system, raising concerns about the lack of due process and the potential for abuse. Their detention was carried out without following standard legal procedures.

Judicial unit handles cybercrime

The specialized judicial unit to which the activists were transferred deals with cases related to cybercrime. It is unclear what charges, if any, have been brought against them or what legal proceedings they will face.
