Wi-Fi signal issues in different rooms

It is a classic phenomenon: the connection is perfect in the living room, but the signal weakens in the children's room, or even disappears in the office at the end of the hallway. Beyond the distance from the box, walls, mirrors, or other wireless devices can interfere with the signal and cause these slowdowns and disruptions.

Mesh networks for better coverage

In large homes or apartments with thick walls, it is possible to achieve a good wireless connection in all rooms using small boxes distributed throughout the home. The brand devolo offers several options, including the devolo WiFi 7 Mesh BE9300 Tri-Band kit and the devolo WiFi 7 Mesh BE6500 kit, priced at different amounts for two boxes.

How mesh networks improve connectivity

When Wi-Fi struggles to reach certain rooms, adding a box to relay the signal from the box is a simple solution to implement. A classic repeater can fulfill this role, but depending on the model and its configuration, the transition from one access point to another can sometimes lack smoothness.

Mesh networks with a single network name

A mesh network, or mesh network, on the other hand, relies on several boxes that work together, with a single network name and a single password. The system helps devices connect to the most suitable box and frequency band for their situation. It thus facilitates the transition from one access point to another when you move from one room to another, for example during a video call.

Wi-Fi 7 and three frequency bands

The BE9300 uses three frequency bands: 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz. These three bands allow the connections to be distributed among the home's devices, which helps to reduce congestion, reduce interference, and maintain high speeds when many devices are connected simultaneously.

Maximum speed and Wi-Fi 7 features

The model's name refers to its theoretical maximum speed, up to 9.3 Gb/s combined across the three bands. This speed is distributed among all devices connected to the network. The BE9300 also benefits from several advances in Wi-Fi 7, such as MLO, or Multi-Link Operation, which allows compatible devices to use two frequency bands simultaneously.

Improved data transmission on 6 GHz

On the 6 GHz band, the BE9300 can use 320 MHz channels, compared to a maximum of 160 MHz in Wi-Fi 6 and 6E. This additional width allows more data to be transmitted at once, especially for downloading large files or transferring them between compatible devices.

Enhanced throughput with 4K-QAM

This model also uses 4K-QAM, a modulation that allows more information to be carried in the same signal, resulting in a 20% higher throughput per stream compared to Wi-Fi 6 according to devolo. Older equipment remains compatible with the network, but only devices that support these new features can fully benefit from them.

Easy installation with optional customization

No app or special settings are needed to install the devolo Mesh kits: the boxes are delivered pre-configured to work together. It is therefore sufficient to connect the first one to the box with an Ethernet cable, then plug the others into the home's power outlets at locations where they still receive the signal correctly.

Additional features and ports

For those who want to customize their network, the free devolo Home Network app and the dedicated web interface allow for further customization. It is possible to configure the devices in depth, as well as create a guest network to avoid sharing the main network's password. The app also offers a speed test to compare several locations and choose the best one.

Ethernet connectivity options

On top of Wi-Fi, each box can also connect your devices—such as a box, PC, NAS, consoles, or home automation systems—via Ethernet through its four RJ45 ports: one port at 2.5 Gb/s and three Gigabit (1 Gb/s) ports. On the main box, the 2.5 Gb/s port is used to connect the box.

Pricing and warranty options

The devolo WiFi 7 Mesh BE9300 Tri-Band kits, which come with a three-year manufacturer warranty, are available on the devolo website. The BE9300 in a two-box kit is priced at 479.90 euros; the BE9300 in a three-box kit is priced at 699.90 euros; the BE9300 as a single box (for extension) is priced at 249.90 euros.

A more affordable alternative

If your budget is tighter but you still want to benefit from the advantages of a mesh network, the BE6500 is the preferred option. Also compatible with Wi-Fi 7, the BE6500 retains the MLO and 4K-QAM, and operates on two bands simultaneously: 2.4 and 5 GHz by default, or 2.4 and 6 GHz after configuration.

BE6500 pricing and expansion options

At 279.90 euros for two boxes, the BE6500 offers a more accessible alternative, also delivered pre-configured for an app-free installation. The BE6500 is also available in a three-box kit for 399.90 euros, and an extension box priced at 149.90 euros allows the network to be expanded later. Each box has four Ethernet ports, one at 2.5 Gb/s, while the theoretical speed reaches up to 6.5 Gb/s, hence the name of the model. This is the main difference compared to the devolo BE9300 kit.
