Double Fine Productions, known for titles like Brütal Legend and Psychonauts, has recently regained its independence after leaving Microsoft. The studio is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund a game jam, where backers will vote on their favorite ideas. Four of the 26 submitted pitches will be developed further, with the potential for one to become a full, small-scale game. Double Fine is also streaming the development process on Twitch, and the campaign includes a stretch goal of $100 million, which would fund a sequel to Brütal Legend. In addition, the studio has made its previous Xbox-exclusive game Keeper available on PlayStation 5 and lowered the price of its latest title, Kiln, to $8. Aggro Crab, a new publishing studio, is following a model similar to Innersloth, the creators of Among Us. Using funds from its own game, Peak, Aggro Crab is publishing other developers' games. The studio aims to bring "intense, stylized games with an attitude" to market without being limited to a specific genre. It has stated that developers using generative AI tools will not be considered for publishing. Aggro Crab also does not require developers to fully recoup their investment before they begin earning revenue. Among the titles it has signed are Rebounder, a precision platformer from ThirtyThree, and Subway Midnight, a trippy horror game. Eric Barrone, the creator of the popular farming simulator Stardew Valley, provided an update on his upcoming game Haunted Chocolatier. He confirmed that he is still making progress on the project and is "most eager and driven" to work on it. Barrone emphasized that he will not compromise on quality by rushing the game's release. Several new indie games have recently been released. Worming From Home is a remote work simulator where players control a worm trying to climb the financial analyst career ladder. It is available on Steam with a 25 percent discount until September 18. Marsupilami 2: Salsa Palombia, a sequel to a popular Belgian comic-based platformer, is available on multiple platforms and features three playable characters with unique abilities. He Who Watches, a first-person puzzle game inspired by Breath of the Wild and other titles, is set to release with a 15 percent discount until September 16. Other recent releases include ShipShaper: Falconeer Chronicles, a game allowing players to design ships with experimental interfaces, and Shoe It All!, a puzzle game where players launch shoes to solve puzzles, both available with discounts until September 17.
