A 37-year-old school assistant from Tarnos, in the Landes department, accused of raping and sexually assaulting children between the ages of 3 and 4, was released in August with reduced judicial supervision. The suspect was arrested on July 6 and charged with four counts of rape and three sexual assaults before being held at the Mont-de-Marsan prison. After requesting his release, he was freed approximately one month later. His supervision now includes maintaining a geographical distance from Brittany and undergoing biweekly checks at the gendarmerie. However, the judicial authorities have expressed concerns about the suspect’s safety, citing the need to protect him from potential threats. The instruction chamber reportedly stated that "his protection cannot be better ensured in a prison environment given the nature of the facts for which he is indicted," according to franceinfo. No change of prison facility or solitary confinement was considered as part of his release conditions. The case came to light after a 4-year-old girl who attended a leisure center told her mother that an animator had "touched her zizi," mimicking the gesture. This led to further testimonies from other children, many of whom described similar experiences. The alleged acts reportedly occurred in restrooms and during nap times, with some children describing incidents that constitute rape. Parents of the affected children have reported behavioral changes in their children, with one parent, Delphine, stating that her child "cannot go to the toilet alone, even today." These accounts prompted multiple families to file complaints against the suspect. Since his arrest, the suspect has reportedly faced new allegations involving additional children. The number of families who have filed complaints continues to rise, with 14 families having come forward so far. The ongoing nature of the accusations has raised serious concerns among the community and authorities regarding the safety of young children in similar environments. The judicial process is ongoing, and further details about the suspect’s legal status and the nature of the alleged offenses are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
