Inès Djelouadji has opened Koneko Work, a unique coworking space in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, in March 2025. This space allows professionals to work in a quiet environment while gently petting stray cats that have been rescued from the streets. Djelouadji believes that the presence of these cats helps reduce stress and increase focus, creating a soothing atmosphere for workers. Unlike traditional cat cafes, which prioritize customer experience over animal welfare, Koneko Work places a strong emphasis on the well-being of its feline residents. Since its opening, 23 of the cats have found permanent homes through adoption. On this Wednesday morning, the bustling rue d'Aligre is filled with market vendors and passersby, while Koneko Work offers a peaceful and charming contrast nearby. The space can accommodate up to thirty people and hosts six to nine cats rescued by the association Ema. Djelouadji, a former engineer in the food industry, has always had a deep love for cats and wanted to create a business that combined her passion with her professional skills. She believes the cats are perfectly at home among the keyboards and computers of the workspace. The cats at Koneko Work have complex histories, having encountered many people in their past. Djelouadji is committed to ensuring they feel safe, happy, and fulfilled in their new environment. She emphasizes the importance of providing them with a stable and loving setting, which also helps create a more compassionate and focused workspace for visitors. The cats are not just a feature of the space—they are integral to its mission. Koneko Work offers more than just a quiet place to work; it is a space where people can connect with animals in need. Every cat present is available for adoption, and Djelouadji encourages visitors to consider bringing one of these feline companions into their homes. The coworking space is not only a place for productivity but also a reminder of the positive impact that compassion and community can have on both people and animals.
