After-school care dispute escalates

The debate over the after-school care program in Grabels continues to grow, with opposition members of the "Grabels avec vous" group publicly supporting the program's staff and parents of students. They are highlighting concerns about the number of staff available to supervise children.

Job cuts at the center of the conflict

The disagreement focuses on the number of human resources allocated to child supervision. Opposition members claim that six positions, including those of animators and female animators, have been eliminated in the commune’s schools since the start of the school year in September 2026.

Parents raised concerns early

Elected officials stated that representatives of student parents had already brought their concerns to the municipality as early as July. They argue that the decisions made by the municipal majority, led by Pascal Heymes, are harming both staff working conditions and the quality of after-school care for children.

Staff demand specific changes

The mobilized staff are calling for the immediate hiring of four additional animators, the creation of a reserve of replacements, and the reinstatement of fifteen minutes of preparation time before the midday service. They feel these changes are essential to maintaining safe and effective care for children.

Public gathering planned for Thursday

A public gathering is scheduled to take place this Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m., in front of the Grabels town hall. The event is organized by a group of student parents and is being encouraged by the "Grabels avec vous" list for families and residents of the commune to attend.
