Hisense 55E7S TV model details

The Hisense 55E7S is a 55-inch television from Hisense's E7S series, which includes models ranging from 43 to 85 inches. It is positioned below the more advanced E7S Pro model, which supports higher gaming performance with a 144 Hz panel, while the 55E7S has a 60 Hz panel. The TV is currently available at a discounted price of 350 euros, down from its regular 449 euros, through the Joybuy platform using a coupon that automatically applies the discount.

Technology and features of the TV

The Hisense 55E7S uses a 4K VA panel combined with a layer of quantum dots, which Hisense calls Hi-QLED Colour. This technology enhances color saturation compared to standard LCD screens, and the VA panel contributes to deeper blacks, with a claimed contrast ratio of 8,000:1. The TV also includes an AI 4K Upscaler that improves the resolution of older HD content, such as terrestrial television, to 4K.

HDR and display capabilities

The TV supports several HDR formats, including Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive, and HLG. The IQ and Adaptive versions adjust the image based on room lighting, which is useful for viewing in bright environments. However, the Direct LED backlighting does not include local dimming, and the typical brightness is around 330 nits, which is adequate for HDR but not exceptionally high.

Gaming features and limitations

For gaming, the Hisense 55E7S includes three HDMI 2.1 ports, ALLM (which automatically switches to game mode when a console is turned on), and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). The Game Mode Plus reduces input lag to under 10 ms. A Game Bar appears on request to display information such as frame rate, HDR format, or VRR status. However, VRR is limited to 60 Hz, meaning it cannot support games running at 120 frames per second on consoles like the PS5 or Xbox Series X. For such use cases, the E7S Pro with a 144 Hz panel is more appropriate.

Software and audio features

The Hisense 55E7S runs on VIDAA, Hisense's smart TV platform, which supports features like AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the Alexa assistant. The TV has a 2.0 sound system with 20 W of power, compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. This setup is suitable for watching news or series but may not provide enough audio impact for action movies, where a soundbar would offer a more noticeable improvement.
