Bernard d'Ormale, the last husband of the iconic French actress Brigitte Bardot, has criticized the sale of personal items belonging to his late wife. The auction, held on Monday, September 21, at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris, included over 300 items. These ranged from portraits of Bardot to her personal belongings, such as toiletries, a flamenco guitar, and a black tutu. D'Ormale described the sale as "scandalous," stating that Brigitte Bardot would not have approved of it. He added that he was surprised by the sale, as he was presented with the situation after the fact. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which organized the auction, denied d'Ormale's claims. A spokesperson stated that the sale was approved in a board meeting in June, with all members present, including d'Ormale, who was then the foundation’s president. The foundation also pointed out that Bardot had previously held an auction of her most valuable items to raise funds for her charitable work. D'Ormale, however, said he had not realized the auction would include such personal and intimate items. On Wednesday, a board meeting concluded d'Ormale's tenure as president of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, a position he had held since the death of his wife in December of last year. Max Guazzini, a former president of the NRJ media group and administrator of the foundation since 2020, was elected as the new president. D'Ormale, who will remain an administrator, expressed disappointment that he could no longer freely access the Madrague, the Saint-Tropez villa he had lived in for 35 years. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation is a well-known organization focused on animal welfare. It claims to have rescued 13,000 animals across four shelters and supports 350 associations in France. The foundation also collaborates with 150 partner pensions and carries out activities in 70 countries. Currently, it has over 1,000 dogs and cats available for adoption.
