Lego releases Dragon Ball set

Lego has announced a new set featuring characters from the Dragon Ball series, including the dragon Shenron and a figure of Son Goku. The set, priced at 139.99 euros, is part of the Lego Icons line, designed for adults 18 and older, and will be available starting November 4, 2026.

Set details and release timeline

The set, with reference number 11390, includes the dragon Shenron, seven crystal balls, and a Goku figurine. Early access for Lego Insiders begins on November 1, giving them a day of exclusive purchase before the general release.

Dragon Ball's global popularity

The Dragon Ball manga, created in 1984, has gained significant popularity outside Japan, especially in South America and France. This success is partly attributed to Club Dorothée, a French media company, and the growing interest in Japanese culture among French audiences.

First Lego product based on Dragon Ball

This is the first Lego product directly inspired by the Dragon Ball series. Previous Lego sets based on other anime, such as One Piece, were released as early as August 2025, showing Lego's expanding interest in anime licenses.

Design features of the Shenron model

The dragon Shenron is designed as a giant serpent with arms, inspired by Chinese dragons, and stands over 32 centimeters tall. It is made of 1,764 pieces without stickers, emphasizing construction quality and durability. The model includes a snake-like body with clear distinctions between its belly and back, as well as spines along its spine.

Design choices and criticisms

The face of Shenron appears less intimidating due to the softness of the bricks used. However, the visible joints on its hands reveal the model's construction nature. Lego used recycled pieces for the dragon's spiky crests, and the display case includes subtle details to evoke the summoning of the dragon.

Goku's figure and its features

The Goku minifigure includes a new piece molded to replicate his iconic hairstyle, which has been well-received and could be used for other characters in the Dragon Ball universe. Goku is also identifiable by his small monkey tail, orange outfit (screen-printed on the legs), blue and white shoes, and his staff.

Future Lego Dragon Ball products

Lego has confirmed additional Dragon Ball products for 2027, with anticipation for future figures such as Freezer, Vegeta, and Gohan. This suggests continued interest in expanding the Dragon Ball line within Lego's product offerings.
