Mistral AI has acquired Pimento, a French startup co-founded by Florent Facq and Tomás Yany. Pimento specializes in using artificial intelligence to create advertising content. This acquisition marks Mistral's expansion into the marketing and creative sector, following earlier purchases of Koyeb, a French company focused on serverless infrastructure, and Emmi AI, an Austrian firm that uses AI for physics-related tasks. Mistral's strategy is to move down the value chain from infrastructure to business applications by acquiring companies with specialized tools and expertise.
Pimento was founded in October 2022 with the goal of using generative AI to assist creative teams during the ideation phase. The company received 3 million euros in funding from Partech and Cygni Capital in December 2023. Since then, Pimento has shifted its focus to downstream marketing tasks, evolving from a tool for creating moodboards to a full advertising creation platform. Its system can generate, modify, resize, and animate advertising content while incorporating brand elements such as colors, typography, and logos.
The Pimento platform features a conversational interface called Pix, which allows users to define their needs, clarify their creative briefs, and generate corresponding content. It also connects to major advertising platforms like Meta, TikTok, Google, and Pinterest. This integration allows the system to read campaign performance data, launch new ads, manage parameters, and detect when an advertisement is losing effectiveness. The platform then uses this data to prepare the next creative brief, creating a feedback loop that integrates performance insights back into the creative process.
Mistral is particularly interested in Pimento because of its business interface, structured brand knowledge, platform connections, and the ability to reinject performance data into the creative process. This aligns with Mistral's development of Vibe, an AI agent designed to perform complex, multi-step tasks and coordinate different professional processes. Pimento provides a specialized version of this logic tailored for marketing.
The acquisition of Pimento follows Mistral's earlier purchase of Emmi AI, which aimed to strengthen Mistral's offerings in industrial engineering by adding scientific expertise and specialized models. Mistral plans to integrate Koyeb's infrastructure, Emmi AI's scientific models, and Pimento's marketing tools to create AI agents capable of interacting with tools used by engineers and marketing teams.
Mistral recently raised 3 billion euros in funding, with Samsung Electronics leading the round through the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT and PSG Equity. This funding will support Mistral's external growth strategy. The company now operates in twenty countries and supports over 125 large enterprises, including Airbus, ASML, and HSBC. Part of the funds will be used for model training and increasing computing capabilities, with Mistral aiming to eventually reach 1 gigawatt of computing power.
