Motorists in Saint-Romain-en-Gier must avoid a railway crossing during night hours for track repairs, with new traffic lights in place to improve safety.
Railway crossing closure for repairs
Motorists will need to avoid the railway crossing at Saint-Romain-en-Gier during the night of Monday, October 19, to Tuesday, October 20, due to scheduled track trench repair work. The Rhône Department announced that the repairs are scheduled between 8:00 PM and 6:30 AM, during which time crossing the railway crossing will be prohibited for motor vehicles.Repairs postponed for safety
These works had initially been planned for the summer but were postponed due to safety reasons related to the immediate proximity of the railway line. The delay highlights the importance of ensuring that such work is conducted under conditions that minimize risks to both workers and the public.New traffic system at the crossing
A new traffic system has been in place since July at the railway crossing PN 337. The Rhône Department, the State, the Region, and SNCF Réseau installed an alternate system with traffic lights to improve crossing safety. The system entered its final configuration on July 2.Traffic light operation details
During peak morning and evening hours, the traffic lights operate according to a pre-defined cycle. Outside of these time slots, the five traffic lights remain red and only turn green when a vehicle is detected approaching. The arrival of a train automatically interrupts the cycle.Observation period for the system
The Department also indicates that it has begun, with the local commune, a period of observation of the system's operation. This phase is intended to identify any potential adjustments to be made later to the traffic light cycle in order to improve traffic in the area.
