Zero Motorcycles sets new world record
Zero Motorcycles has set a new world record for the longest distance traveled by an electric motorcycle on a single charge, covering 436.5 kilometers from the French Alps to the Mediterranean. The achievement was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records and surpasses the previous record of 310.6 kilometers set in 2025 by a Verge TS Pro by over 125 kilometers.Three models tested for performance
Three Zero Motorcycles models—Zero DS, DSR/X, and SR/S—were used in the test. The DS achieved the best result of 436.5 kilometers, while the DSR/X reached 384 kilometers and the SR/S covered 350 kilometers. All three models exceeded the previous record, showcasing the brand's range capabilities.Power Tank enhances battery capacity
The Zero DS that set the record was equipped with the Power Tank, an official battery upgrade that increases the capacity from 15.6 to 19.2 kWh. According to Zero Motorcycles, the motorcycle was not modified beyond official specifications. The rear motor produces 60 horsepower at peak and 15 horsepower continuously.Route and conditions of the test
The ride took place on open roads, avoiding highways and two-lane roads in favor of smaller routes that allowed for a steady pace. Riders aimed to maintain around 52 km/h when possible. A severe downpour occurred toward the end of the journey, and the charging port was sealed to ensure the motorcycle remained fully charged. Two GPS trackers were installed and verified by a Guinness Book of World Records representative upon arrival.Efficient driving and route planning
The route extended from the Franco-Italian Alpine region to the Mediterranean coast, passing through mountain passes, cities, villages, and rural areas. The itinerary was designed to maximize energy efficiency by minimizing stops and restarts. Regenerative braking helped recover energy during descents, while steady speeds on open roads further optimized range.Real-world limitations noted
While the test highlights the potential of the Power Tank and smooth driving techniques, the conditions—such as avoiding highways, maintaining low speeds, and careful energy management—differ significantly from typical riding scenarios. Real-world range in mixed use will likely be much lower. Additionally, the DS model is not sold in the United States, emphasizing the European focus of this record.
