Jeremy Clarkson, the British television presenter and farmer, has expressed frustration after 11 of his Easycare sheep were stolen from his Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire. Speaking to The Sun, Clarkson told the thieves: "Put them back," and noted that the farm is equipped with security measures. He described himself as "p***ed" off by the incident, adding that he was unsure when the theft occurred. Clarkson and his companion Kaleb discovered the missing sheep after counting the flock in one field, with suspicions that some were also missing from another field about a mile away that housed around 140 sheep.
Easycare sheep are a specific breed known for their hardiness and ease of care, which makes them valuable to farmers. Clarkson recently sold 24 of these sheep at a market for £205 each, meaning the loss of 11 could amount to over £2,000 in damages. He mentioned that the police had been helpful in the investigation, and after reviewing 700 hours of recorded messages, a police officer was able to identify the Easycare breed, which helped in the investigation.
The theft reportedly occurred either at night or during a time when the farm was not being filmed for Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm, a popular television series. During filming, a film crew and drone are typically present, which may have deterred potential thieves. While Clarkson questioned whether the show had made his farm a target, he doubted that the exposure from the program was the cause of the theft. He acknowledged the challenges of securing a large 1,000-acre property, which is a common issue for rural landowners.
The theft was reported to Thames Valley Police by Cooper, the farm’s land manager, and Charlie Ireland, who also works on the property. The case is currently under investigation, and authorities are looking into possible leads to recover the stolen sheep.
