A new comic book adaptation of Maurice Leblanc's classic novel Le Bouchon de cristal (The Crystal Stopper) has been released, offering a fresh take on the original story. This version emphasizes themes of political corruption, scandal, and state secrets. The comic, created by Jérôme Félix and Alain Janolle, follows Arsène Lupin, a charming and clever gentleman burglar, as he discovers a list of corrupt politicians hidden inside a mysterious crystal stopper. The story opens with a failed robbery that results in a young man's arrest and near execution, setting off a series of events that pull Lupin and his loyal companion Grognard into a complex world of revenge, media influence, and political intrigue.
Jérôme Félix, the scriptwriter, has been adapting Arsène Lupin's adventures for comic books since 2021 through the publisher Grand Angle. His work is based on Leblanc's original novels, though he adapts them with creative freedom. Félix is also known for his acclaimed western comic Jusqu’au dernier, which sold 75,000 copies and won the FNAC BD de Belgique prize. He is also involved in the Normandy Noir festival Bloody Fleury and frequently gives lectures on comics at art schools and literary events in France.
Alain Janolle, the illustrator, has been active in the comic book industry since the 1990s. He co-founded the company BDCom, known as Trait de Plume, in 1992 with friends. Janolle has worked on various series, including Nemesis and H.O.P.E, and has collaborated with Félix since 2019 on projects such as Ces petits riens qui changent tout. He joined the Les Aventures d’Arsène Lupin en BD series in 2021, bringing his distinctive visual style to the adaptation of Leblanc’s work.
The comic book, titled Arsène Lupin – Le Bouchon de cristal, is published by Editions Bamboo - Grand Angle and will be available on 7 October 2026. It contains 64 pages and is priced at 17.90 €. This release marks the latest addition to the ongoing series of comic adaptations of Leblanc's classic stories, continuing to bring the adventures of Arsène Lupin to new audiences.
