New FIA center in the UK

The Fédération internationale de l'automobile (FIA) has opened a new Race Operations Centre (ROC) in Biggin Hill, southeast London, to enhance the management of Formula 1 Grand Prix events. This facility is part of the FIA's ongoing efforts to modernize its oversight of the sport.

Biggin Hill's existing role

Biggin Hill already houses the main audiovisual production hub for Formula 1, where footage from hundreds of cameras on circuits is compiled for global broadcasts. The new center will expand its role in organizing and managing Grand Prix events.

AI to support officials

The ROC will use artificial intelligence to assist race officials in detecting rule violations and making decisions more consistently. It will handle tasks like monitoring false starts, track limits, and pit lane infractions, while also automating certain procedures.

Focus on efficiency, not replacement

The FIA emphasizes that the center is not meant to replace human officials but to provide them with faster and more accurate information. This is especially important as Formula 1 continues to grow globally, increasing logistical challenges.

Leadership and vision

The center was officially inaugurated in the presence of FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. Ben Sulayem highlighted the importance of investing in technology and infrastructure to maintain high standards in race management.
