From Monday, October 5, to Sunday, October 11, the city of Lyon will host the Séminaire Bleue, a week-long event designed to celebrate and highlight the contributions of older adults to society. This annual event aims to promote intergenerational connections and provide a platform for elderly residents to engage in social, cultural, and educational activities. Organized by the city and its partners, the Séminaire Bleue will feature nearly 200 events across all nine districts of Lyon. With nearly 100,000 residents over the age of 60—more than a quarter of the population—the event underscores the significance of this demographic in the city's social fabric. The Séminaire Bleue was first established in 1951 and has since grown into a major celebration of aging and the active role seniors play in community life. This year’s edition marks a special anniversary and focuses on strengthening relationships between different generations. The week will include a wide range of activities, such as conferences, physical exercises, workshops, meals, and cultural events, all aimed at promoting well-being and social engagement. Events will begin on Monday, October 5, with a special session for new retirees, offering them an introduction to the various resources and opportunities available in Lyon. Throughout the week, activities will be held in each of the city's districts, focusing on themes such as health, culture, and intergenerational relations. Most of the events will be free to attend, though some will require prior registration. One of the highlights of the week will be the traditional Senior Ball, scheduled for Friday, October 9, in the salons of City Hall. This event has become a beloved tradition, where Grégory Doucet, a local figure, will lead dance sessions with older residents. The ball will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include both music and dance, as well as a unique activity where participants can create and print their own ball programs with the Museum of Printing and Graphic Communication and students from the Don Bosco high school. The Séminaire Bleue offers a rich and varied program that invites all residents to engage with the elderly population and celebrate their contributions. By emphasizing accessibility and community involvement, the event aims to foster a more inclusive and connected Lyon. Those interested in attending should register through the city or their local district mayors, as space may be limited for some activities.
