The feature film Madfabulous, which tells the story of an eccentric 19th-century Welsh aristocrat, is leading the nominations at this year's Bafta Cymru awards with six nods. Other notable contenders include the drama series The Guest, which received five nominations, and the crime thriller Under Salt Marsh, which earned three. The awards celebrate excellence in Welsh screen industries, highlighting both acting and behind-the-scenes contributions. Actor Callum Scott Howells, who plays Henry Pages in Madfabulous, previously described the role of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey as a "genuine honour." Lee Walters, chairman of BAFTA Cymru, praised the nominees, saying their work reflects the creativity and dedication of Wales' growing screen industry. He emphasized the importance of telling unique stories that resonate with both local and global audiences, and he highlighted the awards as a chance to inspire future Welsh storytellers. This year’s nominations include several returning stars and first-time nominees. Actress Eve Myles is up for her 10th Bafta Cymru award, while Gabrielle Creevy and Matthew Rhys each received their fourth nomination. Directors Euros Lyn and Gareth Bryn are both nominated for their ninth time. Among the first-time nominees are Buddug Povey, Sian Reese-Williams, Tom Cullen, Sian Eleri, Claire Oakley, and Lisa Baker, marking a diverse range of talent. The full list of nominations spans 17 categories, with entries across film, television, and documentary. Notable nominees include Jonathan Pryce for Under Salt Marsh, Tom Cullen for Trespasses, and Sian Reese-Williams for Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards. The awards ceremony, hosted by Welsh TV presenter Owain Wyn Evans, will take place on Sunday, 4 October, at the ICC Wales in Newport.
