The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro was launched on September 2 and is the latest high-end sports smartwatch from Huawei, succeeding the Watch GT 6 Pro. This new model retains key features from its predecessor, such as the AMOLED screen and long battery life, but focuses on improvements for outdoor activities. Enhancements include a refined GPS system, better endurance for long events, and new features tailored for trail running, skiing, and cycling. These updates aim to make the watch more appealing to serious athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. Both the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro and GT 6 Pro have the same dimensions (45.6 x 45.6 x 11.25 mm) and are made with a titanium alloy case. The GT 7 Pro is slightly heavier at 55.5 grams without a strap compared to the GT 6 Pro's 54.7 grams. Both models feature a 1.47-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits, making them highly visible even in bright sunlight. The GT 7 Pro stands out with a nano-ceramic bezel, sapphire glass, and a titanium case. It also maintains water resistance up to 40 meters, suitable for snorkeling. While hardware changes are minimal—retaining the same screen, battery, and sensor categories—the GT 7 Pro introduces new software features and enhancements for sports use. The GPS system now uses Huawei's AI-XDR algorithm, which the company claims improves accuracy during high-speed activities like skiing. However, for more common activities like running, the difference in GPS accuracy is negligible. In testing, the GT 7 Pro showed a 0.77% deviation over 63 km, while the GT 6 Pro had a 0.70% deviation over 92 km—both differences are barely perceptible to the average user. The GT 7 Pro brings more significant improvements to specific sports. For skiing, it offers detailed maps of over 3,000 resorts, including slope difficulty, lift locations, and analysis of turns and G-force. In cycling, it adds features like better ascent management, route alerts, and compatibility with home trainers. Trail running benefits from up to 51 hours of battery life in a dedicated mode, compared to 40 hours on the GT 6 Pro. These enhancements are more relevant to serious athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. The GT 7 Pro also introduces a "preparation score," which synthesizes data on sleep, activity, and recovery to give users a clearer sense of their readiness for training. For everyday use, the differences between the GT 6 Pro and GT 7 Pro are minor. Both have the same screen size and brightness, and the GT 6 Pro already offered excellent battery life and health tracking features. The GT 7 Pro adds a more refined aesthetic with a nano-ceramic bezel and a new EasyCross strap, which allows for a more discreet fit. Daily battery life remains similar, with both models lasting up to 21 days on maximum autonomy. The GT 7 Pro’s extended battery is more noticeable during long outdoor sessions. Whether to upgrade from the GT 6 Pro to the GT 7 Pro depends on the user's needs. For casual users focusing on running, gym workouts, or basic health tracking, the GT 6 Pro is still a strong option, offering similar performance at a lower price. However, the GT 7 Pro is more appealing to athletes who can benefit from its advanced features for skiing, cycling, and trail running. The new preparation score also offers a more user-friendly way to interpret training and recovery data. While the GT 7 Pro is more comprehensive, the decision to upgrade may also depend on budget, as the GT 6 Pro remains a competitive choice for those who don’t need the extra features.
