Rothen doubts Marseille's European prospects

Jérôme Rothen, a French sports commentator, has expressed doubt about Olympique de Marseille's (OM) ability to qualify for European competitions, even after the team's recent three consecutive league wins. He appeared on his RMC show to voice his concerns, stating that while OM has improved in the league standings, the team still lacks strength and consistency.

Marseille's recent performance

Marseille has regained momentum in Ligue 1 with victories over Troyes, Angers, and Le Havre, earning nine points in the process. The team is set to face Toulouse in the 9th round of Ligue 1 at the Vélodrome, which will be a crucial match for their continued progress in the league.

Rothen's critique of OM's weaknesses

Rothen emphasized that OM is even weaker than the inconsistent top teams in the league and lacks the mental strength to finish in the top six. He pointed to the recent match against Le Havre as an example of how fragile the team's performance is, predicting that OM will struggle as the season progresses and the schedule becomes more demanding.

Marseille's current league position

Bruno Genesio and his players have climbed to 8th place in the Ligue 1 standings, three points behind the teams currently in the top three. Despite this improvement, Rothen reiterated his doubts about OM's chances of securing European qualification, citing the team's poor performance in the Europa League, where they have earned zero points after three matches.
