Totalenergies maintains price cap

Totalenergies has confirmed that its price cap for diesel remains at 2.25 euros per liter, despite the release of strategic diesel stocks. The company’s CEO, Patrick Pouyanné, stated that this decision was made on Monday, October 12.

Impact on diesel prices

The release of strategic stocks is expected to affect diesel prices at Totalenergies stations by between 8 and 12 cents. Pouyanné estimated that the impact would be around 10 cents, though the exact amount could vary within that range.

Government meeting with distributors

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu held a meeting with fuel distributors on Monday to discuss the potential impact of releasing strategic reserves on pump prices. The meeting aimed to address the anticipated changes in fuel pricing for consumers.

Distribution of released stocks

The 10 million barrels of diesel to be released will be distributed according to market shares in 2025. Totalenergies, which holds 23% of the market, will receive 2.3 million barrels, while mass retail will get 6.5 million and other stations will get 1.2 million.

Benefits for specific groups

Pouyanné noted that the release of strategic reserves would bring benefits to specific groups, including a 20-cent reduction per liter for GNR (National Rural and Agricultural Organization) users and a 200-euro reduction per cubic meter for domestic fuel. These reductions are intended to ease the financial burden on farmers, fishermen, and public works companies.
