Gas prices in Southern California have been rising for 36 consecutive days, reaching their highest levels since late 2023. In Los Angeles County, the average cost for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline reached $6.258, according to data from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. This marks an increase of 61.6 cents over the period, with a 2.3-cent rise on Tuesday alone. Compared to one week ago, prices are up 16.9 cents, 58.4 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.528 more than at the same time last year. The increase has been partly attributed to events since the start of former President Donald Trump’s conflict with Iran in February, which contributed to rising oil prices and, in turn, higher fuel costs. In neighboring Orange County, gas prices also hit their highest level since September 2023, climbing to $6.246. Prices have increased by 67.1 cents over the 36-day period, with a 3.2-cent rise on Tuesday. The current average is 17.7 cents above the previous week, 61.5 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.543 more than last year. Since the beginning of the Iran-related tensions, prices in Orange County have risen by $1.61. Former President Donald Trump recently commented on gas prices on his social media platform, Truth Social, asserting that fuel costs were "much higher" under his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump’s claim sparked varied responses from users, who shared different experiences with gas prices in their regions. Some users disputed the claim, noting lower prices in places like Michigan, while others said they were paying more than ever before. In contrast, others reported higher prices in their own areas, such as Tennessee, and some noted that food and diesel prices have also risen significantly. The national average gas price is at its highest level this late in the year, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices at over 150,000 stations across the country. The rising prices have impacted drivers nationwide, with many feeling the financial strain as fuel costs continue to climb.
