The 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival wrapped up its industry program with several projects from Kosovo, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina receiving awards in the WIP Europa, WIP Latam, and Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum sections. These awards recognize promising film projects in various stages of development, often highlighting international collaborations and emerging talent.
In the WIP Europa category, In a Manner of Speaking by Val Jashari (Kosovo/Montenegro) won both the WIP Europa Industry Award and the WIP Europa Award. The film follows an Albanian-US fugitive seeking refuge with a woman from a remote village. This is Jashari's debut feature, produced by Valmira Hyseni of Kosovo’s Wavemaker Films and Branimir Žugić of Montenegro’s Live Productions.
In the WIP Latam section, Lovers Go Home! by Juan Sebastián Mesa (Colombia/Spain/Canada/France) received the WIP Latam Industry Award. The film explores the evolving relationship between a single mother working as a cam girl in Medellín and a disabled veteran from New Jersey. This is Mesa’s third feature and is being produced by El Sol Ermitaño, a new Colombian production company, along with other international producers. The film previously participated in the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum at the festival in 2022.
The EGEDA Platino Industria Award for the Best WIP Latam went to Galerna by Tatiana Huezo (Mexico/Spain). The film follows an unemployed actress and a man from the countryside as they travel through remote areas of Mexico to find natural actors for a science-fiction film. Huezo, known for her documentary work and the film Prayers for the Stolen, is producing the film with Nicolás Celis López of Mexico’s Pimienta Films and María Zamora of Spain’s Elastica Films, with Mexico’s Sula Films also announced as a new production company. The film was previously awarded by the Fondazione Prada Film Fund in 2025.
In the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum, The Amateurs by Felipe Solari Yrigoyen (Chile/Argentina/Mexico) won the Best Project Award. The film follows a heist involving a missing Maltese Falcon statuette and a Russian guest during a Comic Con-esque event in Patagonia. The project is in advanced development with 50% of financing secured and has received support from the Chilean Audiovisual Fund, Chile’s IFI cash rebate, BA Audiovisual Development, and Argentina’s INCAA debut film fund. It was presented at the Venice Gap-Financing Market this year.
The DALE! (Development Latin America–Europe) Award was given to The Illusions by Ingrid Pokropek (Argentina/Spain). The film centers on three residents of Buenos Aires who make wishes on a shooting star, only for the wishes to be mixed up. This will be Pokropek’s sophomore feature after The Major Tones, which played in the Berlinale’s Generation Kplus in 2024. The film is in advanced development and expected to be shot in autumn 2027. It is being produced by Juan Segundo Álamos of Argentina’s 36 Caballos, with Spain’s Jaibo Films co-producing and additional ICAA minority co-production support.
The ArteKino International Prize went to Mourning Sound by Selma Cervantes (Mexico). The film follows a woman returning home to Mexico after her mother’s death and reconnecting with her brother through becoming sonideros, or DJs. Cervantes will make her feature debut with this film after her 2023 Sundance-screened short Sweatshop Girl. The film is being produced by Eréndira Núñez Larios for Mexico’s Teorema, which recently staged Fernando Eimbcke’s Berlinale Competition entry Flies.
