Melania Trump is set to visit a school in Ashe County, located in northwestern North Carolina, on Tuesday. During the visit, she will engage with elementary school students, teachers, and staff to discuss the use of technology in the classroom. The trip has been planned well in advance and comes at a time when there is significant discussion between technology leaders and political figures about how to regulate artificial intelligence (AI). Some industry leaders are pushing for more oversight of AI, while President Donald Trump recently dismissed the need for additional restrictions, calling the idea a "hoax." Melania Trump has been a vocal advocate for the role of technology in education. Earlier this year, she gained national attention by participating in a White House event that included a humanoid robot. The event was part of a summit she organized with other first spouses to focus on empowering children through technology. In September, she spoke before a White House task force on AI in education, emphasizing that while AI is contributing to economic growth, it must be managed responsibly. "During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children — empowering, but with watchful guidance," she said during the event. Classroom technology is one of Melania Trump's main focuses, alongside her efforts to support children in foster care and her push for the "Take It Down Act," a proposed law that would make revenge porn a criminal offense. This will be her fourth visit to North Carolina since 2025. She first traveled to the state with President Trump at the start of his term to meet with families affected by Hurricane Helene. She has also visited military families in other parts of the state during her time there. North Carolina is currently a key battleground in the upcoming November mid-term elections, with one of the most closely watched Senate races taking place. Republican Michael Whatley, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, is running against Democrat Roy Cooper, a former governor of the state. President Trump is scheduled to travel to Gastonia, in southern North Carolina, on Wednesday for a campaign rally in support of Whatley.
