Tottenham Hotspur has received an additional £120 million in capital from the Lewis family, bringing their total investment in the club over the past 12 months to approximately £320 million. This follows a previous £100 million injection earlier this summer. The Lewis family, who own the club through their company Enic, have grown in influence at Tottenham since Daniel Levy stepped down as executive chairman in September 2023. The recent investment increased the family’s shareholding in the club to roughly 88 percent. Levy was given the chance to invest more to avoid his stake being reduced, but he did not meet the deadline, which lowered his ownership from 29.88 percent to about 27 percent. It is unclear whether Levy will be involved in this latest move, which could further reduce his share to around 25 percent. The capital injection follows a busy summer transfer window for Tottenham, during which the club spent over £300 million, breaking their own transfer record twice. Among the signings were Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85 million and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for £100 million. Tottenham also signed Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, with Marmoush joining on a loan deal. The club spent over £50 million on defender Jan Paul van Hecke and signed defensive players Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Tosin Adarabioyo, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and Mykhailo Mudryk. Despite this spending, Tottenham’s performance has not improved, as they have finished 17th in the Premier League in the last two seasons. Tottenham have struggled in their opening four Premier League matches this season, failing to score a single goal. They were held to goalless draws by Nottingham Forest and Everton, and earlier lost to Brentford and Newcastle. Their poor form continued in the Carabao Cup, where they were eliminated by Liverpool in a 3-1 defeat at Anfield. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool a two-goal lead, and although Conor Gallagher pulled one back, a late goal from Dominik Szoboszlai sealed the win. Tottenham will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Aston Villa in their next match.
