SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is set to open a new "signature" lounge at Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport in June 2027. This lounge, located on the fourth floor of Terminal 3, will span 3,700 square meters and provide 1,095 seats, with the potential to accommodate up to 4,000 visitors per day. The investment aims to support the growth of Copenhagen as a major Danish hub and enhance SAS's premium offerings for its passengers. The new lounge will replace SAS's current facility at the airport. According to the airline, it will offer approximately 40% more floor space than the existing lounge, along with an increase of more than 60% in the number of seats. Situated on a single level, it will offer views of the runways and airport traffic areas. One of the key features of the new space is the introduction of an "Exclusive Zone," a private area designed for SAS's most loyal customers. While the airline has not yet specified which EuroBonus status levels will have access, the initiative aligns with a broader trend among major airlines to provide differentiated experiences for their top-tier passengers. Paul Verhagen, SAS's commercial director, described the new lounge as "a destination in its own right, redefining travel." He emphasized the creation of the Exclusive Zone as a special area for top-tier customers, aiming to improve the overall airport experience. The lounge will be divided into several sectors, including dining, social areas, family zones, concentration areas, relaxation spaces, and quiet relaxation and sleep areas. SAS promises 24 private workstations, more showers and restrooms, and private rooms described as "hotel rooms," though the access conditions for these rooms have not been detailed. The dining experience will include a dedicated bar serving house cocktails, a coffee service by baristas, and a bakery offering pastries, cakes, and freshly made snacks. The menu will blend Scandinavian influences with international flavors and will change throughout the day. The architectural design will focus on natural materials, light, and high ceilings, reflecting a Scandinavian aesthetic that SAS describes as understated and enduring. The lounge will incorporate recycled SAS textiles and reuse part of the furniture from the current Copenhagen lounge. A digital tracking system for occupancy is also expected to help manage the flow of visitors in this large space. This new lounge is part of SAS's broader repositioning strategy, which began with its transition from Star Alliance to SkyTeam on September 1, 2024, while retaining its loyalty program, EuroBonus. Currently, in Copenhagen, SAS Business class passengers, EuroBonus Gold and Diamond members, and SkyTeam Elite Plus members can access the lounge under certain conditions, and paid access is available when seats are available. The project also marks the return of genuine Business class on SAS's European routes since October 1, 2025, including neutral central seats, meals and beverages, priority access, and lounge access at certain airports. The airline is working to create a more consistent premium experience from the airport terminal to the aircraft cabin, with Copenhagen remaining its primary international transfer hub. With its size and features, the new lounge will be the largest of its kind ever developed by SAS. Its opening is scheduled for June 2027, pending the final construction timeline.
