Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as the head coach of Ghana's men's national team, known as the Black Stars. The 73-year-old Portuguese coach, who previously worked as an assistant manager at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, took charge of Ghana in April and led them to the last 32 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they lost 1-0 to Colombia. After the World Cup, Queiroz appeared to signal his departure on social media, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has since decided to retain him following internal discussions. While the length of his new contract has not been officially announced, the GFA stated he will prepare the team for "a successful new phase on the international stage." Queiroz brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached national teams in Iran, Portugal, Egypt, South Africa, Colombia, and Qatar at major tournaments. The GFA praised his "extensive international experience, technical expertise, and knowledge of the Black Stars," saying he is well-positioned to lead the team into a new chapter. In a statement, the GFA emphasized that Queiroz’s return is based on his proven ability to guide teams through high-pressure competitions and his deep understanding of African football. In response, Queiroz expressed pride and honor at continuing his work with Ghana. In a post on Instagram, he said, "Serving Ghana is far more than coaching a football team. It is a privilege, a responsibility, and a mission to honor one of Africa's greatest football nations and its incredible and passionate football people." He outlined the team’s goals, including daily improvement, uniting the nation, and fighting for victories with passion, humility, and pride. Queiroz will begin his second spell in charge with the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which are set to start later this month. The Black Stars have been placed in Group C, alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia. However, the exact dates and venues for their first two matches have not yet been announced. With the new campaign beginning soon, the focus will be on building momentum and preparing for the challenges ahead.
