Metro’s Tom Percival recently spoke with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, two of the stars of MobLand, about their work on the second season of the crime thriller. Brosnan, 73, described the show as "sensationally savage" and noted that the violence in the series would surpass even that of James Bond. The show, created by Ronan Bennett, follows the anarchic Harrigan crime family, with Brosnan playing Conrad Harrigan and Mirren portraying his wife, Maeve Harrigan. Season two of MobLand begins with a highly intense opening scene that has been described as one of the most violent sequences on television this year. The show also stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, the Harrigan family’s fixer. Brosnan and Mirren both expressed enthusiasm about filming the intense scenes, with Brosnan calling it "the best" and Mirren comparing the show's tone to a Jacobean tragedy, a term referring to the dramatic works of playwrights from the 16th and 17th centuries. Both actors praised director Guy Ritchie for his energetic and unpredictable filming style, as well as his strong visual direction. Brosnan mentioned that Ritchie "acted it out" during certain scenes, while Mirren said Ritchie "had a field day" during the production. The pair emphasized that Ritchie’s approach brought a unique flair to the show. Looking ahead, Brosnan humorously hinted that the season would become "a little bit more medieval in certain parts," but both he and Mirren refused to reveal specific plot details, wanting to preserve the sense of discovery for viewers. The Harrigans now face a new threat in the form of Frankie Cooper, played by Johnny Flynn. Brosnan dismissed rumors of a falling out with Tom Hardy, calling them a "storm in a teacup" and emphasizing that their relationship is "rock solid as a company, as a family." MobLand season two is now available exclusively on Paramount Plus.
