Tahiti announces Tautira Marina development

The minister of Marine Resources, Taivini Teai, announced plans for the Tautira Marina development project during a public meeting last Friday. The project’s initial studies will begin next month, with construction expected to start in 2028.

Community stakeholders attend the meeting

Representatives from the fishing cooperative, tourism service providers, farmers, and families of the Fenua 'Aihere attended the meeting at the Tautira town hall. Local officials, including the first deputy mayor and a vice president of the Assembly of French Polynesia, were also present.

Project goals and phases outlined

The Tautira Marina project aims to "secure and organize" the site for multiple uses, including maritime and land-based activities. The first phase will focus on maritime improvements like renovating the launching ramp and dredging the water area.

Public feedback and project funding

The public expressed satisfaction with the project’s overall direction, though some details will be refined in future studies. The project, managed by Grands Projets de Polynésie, is funded with 250 million francs from the third budget collective.

Timeline for studies and construction

Studies for the project are expected to begin next month and continue through 2027. Construction is scheduled to start in 2028 and be completed by 2029.
