The DRC government exceeded its $60 million funding target, raising $76.8 million in its latest treasury bond sale.
Funds raised exceed target
The Congolese government raised 76.8 million dollars on October 13, surpassing its goal of 60 million dollars. This was achieved through an auction of government bonds, which saw strong investor participation.Currency emissions exceed nine-month target
As of the end of September 2026, the DRC had issued 1.5275 billion dollars in currency emissions, which is 117.5 percent of the target set for the first nine months of the year. This indicates that the government has exceeded its planned borrowing in foreign currencies.New bond issuance planned
The DRC’s public treasury plans to raise 40 million dollars on October 20 through another bond issuance. These bonds, denominated in dollars, will carry an 8 percent annual interest rate and mature on October 20, 2028.Bidding process for the bonds
According to the Ministry of Finance, investors must submit their bids to the Central Bank of the Congo. The actual amount raised will depend on the bids accepted at the end of the auction. The government aims to secure domestic funding to meet its financial needs.Recent success in bond sales
This new issuance follows a successful auction on October 13, where the government secured 76.8 million dollars, which is 16.8 million dollars more than the target. Investors submitted bids totaling around 76.82 million dollars, achieving a coverage rate of 128 percent.Domestic currency emissions lag behind
While foreign currency emissions have met most of the target, emissions in Congolese francs (CDF) have only reached 24.6 percent of the planned amount for the same period. The Central Bank of the Congo reported this in its economic outlook note from October 2, 2026.Public debt composition
As of September 30, 2026, the total outstanding public debt was 7611.4 billion CDF, with about 83 percent of it denominated in dollars. This highlights the significant role of foreign currency borrowing in the country’s financing strategy.
