Adams Verling, a 20-year-old rugby player, has been named in Ireland's senior team for the first time for their opening match in the WXV Global Series against the United States. The match will take place in Dublin on September 21 at Tallaght Stadium, a venue also used by the football club Shamrock Rovers. Adams Verling will play as a blind-side flanker in the back row, alongside captain Erin King at open-side flanker and Aoife Wafer at number eight. This selection comes after strong performances in youth competitions, including the Under-18 Women’s Six Nations in 2024 and the U21 Women’s Six Nations last year, as well as her time with the Clovers in the Celtic Challenge. Although she was part of this year's Six Nations squad, she did not get to play. Head coach Scott Bemand has chosen an experienced forward pack, including props Niamh O'Dowd and Linda Djougang, and hooker Cliodhna Moloney-MacDonald in the front row. With Sam Monaghan injured, Dorothy Wall and Fiona Tuite-O'Sullivan will play in the second row. In the back three, Stacey Flood starts at full-back, with Robyn O'Connor and Vicky Elmes Kinlan on the wings. O'Connor has been a standout player in this year’s Six Nations, scoring two tries. In the midfield, Aoife Dalton and Eve Higgins will start, while Dannah O'Brien and Emily Lane continue their half-back partnership from the Six Nations. The team's replacements include Neve Jones, Sadhbh McGrath, Eilis Cahill, Jane Clohessy, and Brittany Hogan, who scored five tries in this year's Six Nations. Aoibheann Reilly, Anna McGann, and Niamh Gallagher are on standby to provide cover in the backline. Ireland's WXV Global Series campaign continues with matches against Japan in Galway and Cork on September 27 and October 3, and then against South Africa in Cape Town on October 24 and 31. The first match against Japan will be a WXV game, marking a busy schedule for the Irish team.
