A sitcom created entirely by artificial intelligence has premiered on YouTube. The show, titled No Big Deal, was written by Andrew Dickinson and produced by a UK-based AI studio called ModeLabs.ai. The series is set in the fast-paced and often chaotic world of venture capital, following an eccentric group of employees at a fictional investment firm called Janus as they try to find the next big business idea—often with humorous and disastrous outcomes. Dickinson originally intended to create the pilot using traditional television production methods, but he found the process too slow and expensive. After meeting with the team at ModeLabs.ai, he realized that AI offered a new and more efficient way to bring his vision to life. He explained that making the pilot wasn’t simply a matter of pressing a button. Instead, every detail—such as camera angles, actor performances, dialogue, and visual elements—had to be carefully planned and refined through a back-and-forth creative process between the writers and the AI production team. The script was revised over 65 times during the production. Dickinson expressed pride in the final product, saying he still finds the characters amusing and hopes audiences will too. Dan Hawthorne, a representative from ModeLabs.ai, compared the use of AI in this project to the use of CGI in blockbuster films like those from Marvel. He noted that people don’t question whether CGI is "cheating" in those cases, and they judge entertainment based on how it makes them feel, not the tools used to create it. He emphasized that AI wasn’t the joke in No Big Deal—it was the technology that made an ambitious comedy possible.
