A mysterious wild animal has been causing concern in a neighborhood in New Hampshire after three attacks were reported within less than two days. The incidents have taken place near Centerra Park in Lebanon, a city located along the Connecticut River in western New Hampshire. Local police issued warnings to residents about the unusual behavior of the animal, which has been spotted in the area since Sunday. On Tuesday, Lebanon Police shared an update on Facebook, stating that they had received reports of two additional attacks involving what appears to be the same wild animal. Witnesses described the animal as either a gray fox or a fisher, a small carnivorous mammal that belongs to the weasel family. Authorities noted that the most recent attack happened on Monday evening. Video footage obtained by police and shared by media outlets shows the animal running toward a person near a U-Haul truck in an empty parking lot surrounded by greenery. In the footage, the person is seen shaking the animal off their leg while another person jumps out of the way. Lebanon Police have urged residents to avoid approaching the animal, as it has reportedly shown unusual aggression toward people. Officials are particularly concerned about the potential for rabies exposure, as aggressive or erratic behavior in wild animals can sometimes be linked to the viral disease. Rabies is a serious illness that is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, so authorities are advising anyone who may have been exposed to seek immediate medical attention. If bitten or scratched by a wild animal, individuals are encouraged to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water and visit a hospital or medical facility as soon as possible. As of Tuesday, Lebanon Police officers have not encountered the animal themselves. However, they are monitoring the area and have been working with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department to address the situation. The department is asking residents to report any sightings of foxes, fishers, or other wild animals displaying unusual behavior, so that authorities can respond quickly and ensure public safety.
