Huawei, a major technology company based in China, has launched a survey through its Huawei Health app to explore user interest in a new type of wearable device known as a screenless health smartwatch. These devices, unlike traditional smartwatches, do not have a visible screen and instead rely on other methods to provide health tracking and notifications. The survey is designed to understand how people currently use smartwatches and bracelets, including whether they wear them while sleeping and how often they use the devices.
The survey also asks participants if they are familiar with screenless smartwatches and which models they have heard of. Among the examples listed are the Whoop bracelet, Garmin Cirqa, Google Fitbit Air, Amazfit Helio Strap, Polar Loop, Luna Band, and Hume Health Band. Respondents are asked to compare their interest in screenless devices with traditional smartwatches, considering factors like comfort, notification preferences, battery life, cost, and design. The survey also seeks feedback on potential drawbacks of screenless wearables and how they might be used by people who already own a smartwatch.
In terms of pricing, the survey presents two options: 99 euros for a basic version with essential tracking features, or 149 euros for a version that includes a year of AI coaching before switching to a paid plan. Regarding battery life, four options are listed, ranging from seven days to more than two weeks. Notably, the model with the longest battery life is also described as the thickest, suggesting a trade-off between durability and comfort.
Huawei has not yet announced a screenless smart bracelet, and the survey is believed to be part of a market research effort to gauge consumer interest. The company has not provided any timeline for a potential product launch, and it remains unclear how much influence the survey results will have on future decisions. This initiative highlights Huawei's ongoing exploration of innovative wearable technology and its efforts to understand user preferences in this growing market.
