Jaimee Sharp, 28, the daughter-in-law of former English footballer Paul Gascoigne, has been diagnosed with an aggressive and currently incurable form of brain cancer. The condition, known as IDH1-Mutant, CNS WHO grade 4 astrocytoma, is a type of glioblastoma, a rare and fast-growing tumor that forms in the brain. Jaimee is raising £320,500 to participate in a clinical trial in the United States, which could potentially extend her life and allow her to spend more time with her 5-year-old son, Teddy. Jaimee shared how her life has changed since the diagnosis. She described her daily routine with Teddy, emphasizing the importance of their time together. Her symptoms began with severe headaches and confusion, which led to a series of medical tests. Initially, doctors told her she had 12-18 months to live, but further testing revealed a more specific diagnosis with a median survival rate of about five years. Jaimee has undergone surgery to remove part of the tumor, which resulted in the loss of half her vision in her right eye, but she has retained her speech and cognitive abilities. She is currently undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy and has been advised to maintain a normal routine for Teddy to avoid unnecessary distress. Her sister, Brooke Sharp, a student at University College London, played a crucial role in finding a clinical trial in Ohio that Jaimee qualifies for. The trial involves a drug called Olutasidenib, which requires her to travel to the United States every month for two years. The estimated cost for the treatment, including travel and accommodation, is around £320,500. Jaimee expressed frustration at the idea of asking for financial support but emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that she must secure the funds within three weeks to secure her place in the trial. She has received an outpouring of support from the public, with her GoFundMe page already reaching more than half of the target. She also addressed questions about why her father-in-law, Paul Gascoigne, has not contributed to the fundraising, stating that it would be unreasonable to expect a single person to cover such a large expense. Jaimee is grateful for the support she has received and remains hopeful that she will meet her fundraising goal.
