Survey shows public doubt about EV charging

A YouGov survey conducted for Alphabet France in September 2026 found that 71% of French people think the public electric vehicle charging network is not enough, even though there were more than 200,000 public charging stations by the end of August 2026.

Confidence in infrastructure is growing but remains cautious

The survey, which included 1,000 people, shows that while confidence in the charging infrastructure is increasing, it is still limited. Only 29% of respondents believe the current setup allows for fully electric driving, up from 23% in 2024 and 25% in 2025.

Younger people are more confident

Younger people, especially those aged 18-24, showed higher confidence, with 51% expressing a positive view. This is a significant increase from 27% in 2025. However, confidence drops with age, reaching only 17% among those over 65, which may reflect a lack of awareness about existing charging options.

Urban areas have higher confidence

The survey also found that confidence in the charging infrastructure is higher in densely populated areas, such as the Île-de-France region. There, 37% of respondents believe the network is sufficient, compared to only 20% in towns with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
