Open assembly for cultural workers

The Inter-écoles d’art de Lyon is organizing an open general assembly on Monday, October 26, at 6:30 PM, at the Bourse du Travail. This event is aimed at expanding the mobilization beyond students to include professionals in the cultural sector.

Focus on sector-wide issues

The assembly will address demands related to precariousness, funding in the cultural sector, and the conditions under which creative work is produced. Students from art schools in Lyon want to give new momentum to their movement and encourage broader participation.

Collaboration among institutions

The collective brings together students from several institutions in Lyon, including the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon, the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse, and others. These students have been aligning their demands with those of high school students and other ongoing social movements.

Previous actions and growing movement

Since the beginning of October, the movement has included events such as a general assembly on October 5 and a militant choir on October 17. As the date of November 5 approaches, the movement aims to expand its reach beyond students to include more cultural workers.

Key demands for change

Among their demands, the students are calling for the abolition of tuition fees, better financial support for studies, and an end to selection processes they see as socially biased. They also want better working conditions for those in the cultural sector, including fair payment for student projects and regulation of working hours.

Broader cultural and societal goals

The students are also pushing for increased public funding for culture, with a specific demand for at least 1% of the national budget to be allocated to the Culture mission. They are also addressing issues like access to artistic practices, gender-based violence, AI regulation, and climate adaptation in the sector.
