Aston Villa claimed their first Premier League win of the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson, and Emi Buendia secured the win for Villa, while Tottenham managed late consolation goals from Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke. The result left Spurs winless in the league this season and in the relegation zone heading into the international break. The opening goal came in first-half added time when Manzambi tapped in a cross from Boubacar Kamara. Tottenham captain Micky van de Ven was seen receiving treatment on the touchline during the incident, which followed a misplaced pass from Andy Robertson that allowed McGinn to set up the goal. This early lead was crucial for Villa, who were looking to break their winless start to the season. Villa’s goalkeeper, Zion Suzuki, played a key role in the first half with several important saves. He stopped a double attempt from Sávio in the 11th minute and made a spectacular save from Archie Gray. These stops were vital in helping Villa maintain their lead despite Tottenham’s early pressure. Spurs eventually found the back of the net twice in the final stages of the match, with Gallagher scoring in the 87th minute and van Hecke adding a late goal. However, these goals were not enough to change the outcome. The defeat sparked frustration among Tottenham fans, who voiced their discontent with boos after the final whistle. Manager Roberto De Zerbi faces increasing pressure after a summer of high-profile signings and a recent loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery praised his team's resilience, particularly highlighting the performances of Nicolas Jackson and goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Jackson scored in the second half with a clever piece of skill, while Buendia sealed the win with a long-range strike. The victory provided a much-needed boost for Villa as they aim to build momentum in the upcoming fixtures.
