A play inspired by the narrative style of Japanese filmmaker Ryūsuke Hamaguchi, especially his acclaimed work Drive My Car, unfolds in three distinct sections that gradually shift the focus of the story. The play centers on Orion, a 24-year-old man in 2008 who dances, falls in love, misses trains, and resists the idea of growing up. His partner, Hyam, of the same age, can no longer endure his behavior and leaves him. As the years pass, time seems to move slowly, like postcards from the Somme battlefield, with Orion aging physically but not emotionally. In 2025, Chiora appears—a 17-year-old girl without a navel, a character either born from Orion’s loneliness or given to him by the river. Together, they form a tender and chaotic bond in the outskirts of Amiens, navigating life between cafes, selling furniture on Leboncoin, visiting a rural family home, and dancing to reggaeton. Their relationship continues until Orion suffers a stroke. At the hospital, Chiora meets Hyam, whom Orion introduced as his mother, and who now works in the intensive care unit. However, the expectation of a maternal figure quickly falls apart: Hyam does not provide the comfort Chiora hoped for. Orion dies during the care provided by the medical team. Left alone, Chiora is faced with the sudden and overwhelming reality of loss, as the river Somme swells and overflows. At the EHPAD (a type of nursing home for the elderly), where Chiora is an intern, she grows close to Mimouna, Hyam’s mother, a woman struggling with dementia. Chiora invents a grandmother figure, takes Mimouna on boat rides along the river, and one rainy morning, a boat returns without them. The Somme has claimed them. The play leaves the meaning of this event open—whether it is an act of love, a tribute to the river, or an act of revenge against Hyam. The play, Printemps, was created by Nicolas Kerszenbaum, with performances by Marion Bottollier, Nicolas Gonzales, and Miya Péchillon. Guillaume Léglise composed the music, while Carlo Biggiogero and Claire Le Gal designed the set. Vincent Tournaud provided film images, and Adrien Mondot created the video visuals. The production was by Compagnie franchement, tu, with co-production by CCAM Scène Nationale de Vandœuvre. It was supported by Théâtre 13, Cromot, Cité Internationale de la Langue Française (Centre des monuments nationaux), and Rivierarts (Crest, Drôme). The company franchement, tu is conventioned by the DRAC Hauts-de-France and the Région Hauts-de-France, supported by the Department of the Somme and in territorial residence within the Metropolis of Amiens. The play was performed on 29 and 30 September 2026 at CCAM - Scène Nationale de Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy, and on 9, 10, 11, and 12 March 2026 at Maison du Théâtre d'Amiens.
