Musk's investment in Republican campaign

Elon Musk has invested 276 million dollars (246 million euros) in the Republican mid-term election campaign since July 2026, with spending continuing after October 13. This brings his total investment for the 2025-2026 period to 366 million dollars (326 million euros), surpassing the 290 million dollars (258 million euros) he spent in 2023-2024 on similar efforts.

Musk's political spending contradiction

Musk had previously stated in May 2025 that he would spend "much less in the future" on political expenditures. However, his recent spending has exceeded earlier amounts, despite a period of strained relations with Donald Trump following his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency, or Doge.

Musk's role in mobilizing voters

According to Wired, Musk is leading efforts to mobilize the Republican electorate through his super PAC, America PAC. This organization funds campaign advertisements in seven key states for Senate control and over thirty contested House districts, focusing on issues like "cultural wars" and perceived threats from opposing political groups.

Musk's focus on Texas

Musk and his political allies have heavily invested in Texas, where he is based. This includes a large door-to-door campaign, such as leaflets warning against the "radical trans program" of Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, as reported by the New York Times.

Musk as the largest donor

The Washington Post notes that Musk is by far the largest megadonor of the current campaign and "the largest individual donor in recent history of the United States." While he is not the only major donor—three others have spent over 100 million dollars—only one of the top ten individual donors, George Soros, supports the Democratic Party.

Protests and political movements abroad

In Greece, protesters marched against "the progressive dismantling of public education." Across Europe, Gen Z is forming "a united front against right-wing policies," according to reports. Meanwhile, in India, the press has welcomed the return of Apu from The Simpsons, who has been freed from racist stereotypes.
